How The Abortion Pill Reversal Works
The abortion pill consists of two drugs taken separately: mifepristone and misoprostol.
The first drug, mifepristone, blocks the hormone progesterone, which is needed to support the pregnancy. The second drug, misoprostol, is taken after and causes the uterus to contract and expel the pregnancy tissue through cramping and bleeding.
Abortion pill reversal aims to counteract the effects of the first drug, mifepristone, by introducing progesterone back into the body, helping provide the hormonal support needed for the pregnancy to continue.
It has been reported that when APR is started early, continuation rates range from 64% to 68%. However, success is not guaranteed.
Why Timing Is Important
APR is most effective if it is taken within 24 hours of taking mifepristone. However, there have been reported cases of continuation up to 72 hours. You should still reach out to the Helpline if it has been longer than 72 hours.
